Four weeks after equinox and the balance of life is shifting. We have moved through the autumnal months and are now preparing for our winter season. In this retreat we are readying for the three nights of Samhain that culminates on October 31st!
Samhain is an old Irish and Celtic celebration, from a time when the year was divided into two parts - the lighter months and the darker months. It marks the end of the traditional harvest and is seen as a point of transition and a kind of liminal space. It is a time of feast and frolic but also of preparation.
Recognising Samhain is a way to honour the closing of one half of the year and the beginning of the next. It is a time to watch the changing colours and rhythms of nature around us but also to observe the shifts within ourselves as we connect with our own personal cycles. There could be nowhere better to place to do this than in our home away from home in Devon, a farm immersed within nature which truly has a deep magic.
Come and join us to shake off the last of your leaves, find a sense of grounding and fortitude to face the winter months as they approach.
You can expect a pumpkin or two, some deep belly cackles and perhaps a witch will fly past on her broomstick ;)
Maison Fish prides itself on the inclusivity of our retreats. We like to run our experiences organically so that there is space for everyone’s needs. You might want to bathe in the intimacy of your own company, or cackle away with new friends. Each day we offer an opportunity for surfing, hiking , cold water plunging and hot tub soaking. Or you might just want to curl up with a book.
Lolo will be your yoga teacher for this weekend. Her classes blend a powerful and nurturing energy with a mischievous sparkle. She will encourage you to work with your individual anatomy, giving variations and modifications where needed, whether you are a bendy Wendy, a cranky plank or somewhere in between!
Your morning classes will be dynamic and warming. Riding the waves of your breath, expect a strong challenging flow designed to get you into your body to find a balance of strength and space.
Your evening practice will be all about the slow chill. You will be working through a restorative, grounding and nurturing practice to calm the nervous system and bliss you out! Think bolsters and yoga nidra!! ;)
This retreat will be held at Maison Fish DEVON, a treasure chest of a farmhouse in the middle of Exmoor National Park. We know this land like the back of our hand, and we able to bring the nature alive to your senses after six years of potent magic making here.
At this time of year the valley transforms into a blanket of rusted ferns, wild orange bracken and shadowy silhouettes. You can expect forests of whispering trees, wild moss to nuzzle your bones into and meandering rivers to splash in.
Our farmhouse is a premium property, with wooden floors and open fire places. We’ll take our yoga in a converted barn, soak in our Five Elements hot tub under the galaxy, and take a plunge in either the slate swimming pool or private lake.
Maison Fish Devon is our home away from home.
Chloe is a holistic mama who will nourish your cells with seasonal goodness. Her menu is based around whole foods that taste amazingly good. This will be a heart feast of a vegetarian retreat, and any vegans and dietary requests warmly welcomed. All of our ingredients are sourced freshly from local suppliers, and our eggs from the chickens in the field next door.
You will find Chloe in her open plan kitchen, with her chef’s hat on running a very slick and delicious chef’ing operation. This woman is one of the kindest most generous souls we know, and we look forward to showing her skills off to you.
