Maison Fish are excited to return to their Devonshire farmhouse with the wonderful Lolo Lam. Together we Surrender, a retreat put together in harmony with Nature.
Autumn always feels like the start of a new year for Maison Fish. The dizziness of summer moves towards a slow spiral and we have the opportunity to ask ourselves an honest question - "Ok, so where am I at?". Then we surrender to whatever may surface and serve the body and soul with whatever it may need.
Looking towards Nature for guidance is such a huge part of a Maison Fish experience. We live with the ethos that the Nature around us IS the Nature within us and a retreat experience allows us to reconnect to seasonal rhythms. Autumn is about letting go and shredding that which no longer serves, yet this is also a season full of colour, abundance and harvest. Traditionally it's a time when communities came together, gather and prepare for winter's coming months and we see this mirrored so beautifully in our October retreats. We gather together and form a family of like minded souls. We harvest the natural goodness cultivated through yoga, good food and scrumptious conversations. We tune in, restore and reflect with wonderment of where this transitionary season full of colour and change is taking us...
Maison Fish are holding this experience at a treasure chest of a farmhouse within 300 acres of rolling private farmland in the Exmoor National Park. All energy in this spectacular property is either fuelled by wind energy or woodchip with thanks to our favourite farmer Richard who has sustainable living at the heart of his world. We'll take our yoga in a converted barn, with the treat of underfoot heating coming through the wooden floorboards. A premium property with a slated swimming pool and steamy hot tub boasts an exquisite view of rolling hills and rather good looking cows. Your jaw will drop as soon as you walk through the door. Lolo Lam will be your yoga guide for our time together. We will begin each day with a two hour practice, inviting a soft flow of energy to awaken our bodies slowly. We will move through creative and mindful sequencing, with a question of how we can find greater space within our own bodies and greater grace within our movement. We will weave in pranayama into all we do.
The late afternoons will consist of a 'pick n mix' practice combining pranayama & meditation, restorative yoga and maybe 'workshop' anything from the morning practice that you need more clarification on. One practice will include an open fire, a candle lit room and some o so very wonderful savasana massages.
We are so proud to have our very special friend and yoga teacher join us as part of the Maison Fish team. We've watched Lolo make her move from being a nurse to Ayerveda practitioner, and finally to becoming the yogini that she is today, teaching at London Studios Indaba and Peckham Rise. Lolo holds integrity and power together with grace, and truly listens, feels and supports. (We do love you Lolo.)
On one of our days we will head to Croyde Bay, where you can either take a nice stroll along the beach or take an optional surf lession. Please note the Ocean is at its warmest at this time of year!
For Maison Fish, nothing quite replenishes the soul like the ocean.
Our live in chef will make sure we are all nourished deep down into our cells. Our menu is based around whole foods that taste amazingly good. This will be a heart feast of vegetarian retreat, and any vegans and dietary requests warmly welcomed. All of our ingredients are sourced freshly from local suppliers, and our eggs from the chickens in the field next door. Our chef will work in an open plan kitchen, and is happy to talk you through her recipes so you can go home with some new health food pointers and inspiration. We believe in not only serving a healthy menu, but also providing an education in how you can re-create it at home.
THE ORGANISATIONAL STUFF:
Guests can arrive at the Maison from 7pm on Thursday 5th October. We will have something warm and yummy on the agar for your arrival.
The retreat will officially start on the Friday morning and this will be marked by the sound of a gong.
The retreat will close at 11am on Monday 9th October. *please note, if you need to leave on Sunday night this is possible, but in our experience a Sunday lazy afternoon is where true surrender is found so we really do urge our guests to stay if they can.
The Maison really is in the middle of the countryside. We are taking you deep into the country where three farms share a postcode. Maison Fish plan the transport strategically to suit the needs of our guests so please be patient with us until we have all our Fish in line. The easiest train station from London is Tiverton Parkway and the nearest main town to the Maison is Barnstable.
