Join Fern Trelfa for a seasonal retreat that opens with Samhain ceremony on Oct 31st.
What we know as Halloween was traditionally known as Samhain, pronounced “Sow In”, and translated ‘end of summer’. It marks the shift of when Nature turns its face towards the dark days of winter and offers a ceremonious time to come together for retreat.
Over this long weekend, we will be reminded not to be afraid of the long dark night and it’s shadow characters, but instead stand together as soverign souls – alongside a pumpkin or two.
Our garden is a wild valley of forest, streams and moorlands. Hiking through the rusty bracken is a reminder of how death and decay are fundamental to the spirals of life. When we truly look we can see rich beauty and symbolism, offering space for seeding ideas, insights, reflections to incubate and nurture over the winter months.
You will move beneath the skin of your body through embodied yoga, flow and movement. We will use our voices in honour of our truths, no matter how big or how small. We will turn towards the deep velvety spaces within ourselves and learn to take nourishment there. We will listen to our inner stirrings and perhaps, in moments of stillness, slide into the empty space that both the living and dead were born from.
Come join us and breathe life into the forgotten ways of rirtual, story telling and celebration.
This is an offering for you to remember who you are, and where you have come from. You will be given permission to examine the stories you tell yourself - and perhaps send some to the grave.
This is for you to reclaim your deepest power within wild, ancient lands and choose how you move forward into the night.
As Maison Fish we pride ourselves in the inclusivity of our retreats, All humans are welcome, but we recommend guests be open to soulful practice. If there is a spark of inspiration and willingness of heart, we encourage you to follow it. There will be nothing to prove or to apologise for - please be you.
Embodied Yoga & Movement:
Fern will be your guide throughout this weekend. A retreat experience with her is a weave of embodied wisdom, artistry and deep magic.
Her aim is to guide you towards a deep connection to your human form through practices informed by yoga, experiential anatomy, somatic meditation, movement science, ancient sound & voice work, sacred dance and reiki.
She will inspire you to cultivate trust, curiosity and embodied self enquiry within yourself throughout this retreat, and she hopes within your wider life.
Ritual and ceremony are embedded into her offering. Guests should arrive with an openness to all encompassing transformational practice of the body, heart, mind and you might leave feeling as though you’ve danced with magic.
Juicy, thematic morning practices. You will build strength, explore, play and move. Fern is skilled at guiding you through an interconnected web of movement which will enhance your spatial awareness and awaken your sensory intelligence.
You will play with functional exercises to support the thematic practice which Fern will bring to life. This will include a sense of challenge and playfulness. Breath work, meditation and journaling will be included. These will be extended practice of upto three hours.
Relaxing, deeply healing evening practices. These will offer opportunities for stillness and introspection. A space dedicated to deep rest, with reiki energy woven in. Group sound healing experiences will be included, with the use of shamanic drums, tuning forks, crystal bowls and other musical magic. You will explore your voice as a practical tool for self healing, with the focus on 1 or 2 sacred mantras. Pranayama and meditation too. These will be extended practices of upto two hours.
This retreat will be held at Maison Fish DEVON, a treasure chest of a farmhouse in the middle of Exmoor National Park. Fern knows this land like the back of her hand, and is able to bring the nature alive to your senses after six years of potent magic making here.
At this time of year the valley transforms into a blanket of rusted ferns, wild orange bracken and shadowy silhouettes. You can expect forests of whispering trees, wild moss to nuzzle your bones into and meandering rivers to splash in.
Our farmhouse is a premium property, with wooden floors and open fire places. We’ll take our yoga in a converted barn, soak in our Five Elements hot tub under the galaxy, and take a plunge in either the slate swimming pool or private lake.
Maison Fish Devon is our home away from home.
Phoebe is a holistic mama who will nourish your cells with seasonal goodness. Her menu is based around whole foods that taste amazingly good. This will be a heart feast of a vegetarian retreat, and any vegans and dietary requests warmly welcomed. All of our ingredients are sourced freshly from local suppliers, and our eggs from the chickens in the field next door.
You will find Phoebe in her open plan kitchen, singing a long to birdsong we should imagine. you are welcome to ask her questions, and even get involved in the cooking if you wish. This woman is a true wonder.

WE BLUSH A LITTLE AT WHAT OTHERS SAY:
"I arrived with an open mind, but a full one. I'm leaving with clarity and inspiration. Thank you for making the yoga so accessible for me. You have created a magical space with the most epic witches. The wilderness is in my heart and peace is in my mind. The drums, the chimes all the vibration has bought a party to my cells. What a weekend!"
"Thank you - for forging into the nature, for foraging into yourself so you can take us on this wild journey. I felt the love. I felt the truth. I felt the connection. Your spirit encourages me to dive into myself. Im forever grateful we met."
"I am so alive, excited, happy and a whole lot more. Thank you for such an incredible weekend. I am feeling so inspired. I had my first singing lesson last week (apparently I can sing!). I feel so many new possibilities opening up and it all started from our weekend together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"What a special, special weekend. I really appreciate the heart and thought that went into all of it. You can feel it, totally feel it. Was totally amazing to find the edges of my comfort zone, but then find ease, breathe and find comfort in the next stage. Repeat forever I guess. I think I will smile thinking of myself banging that drum at the top of the fort at sunrise for a long time. Thank you"
